Gießen: Better know your district – Recent topics in the characterization and application of minerals in soil systems

Commission VII of DBG invites to a small symposium on soil mineralogy. The main focus will be on the characterization of poorly crystalline minerals in the complex matrix soil as well as on the technical application of minerals in the environmental context. Neighboring topics are also welcome.

The goal of the symposium is to bring together all who are interested: experienced as well as young scientists to discuss new analytical opportunities and existing challenges in our field and to stimulate collaborations. In addition to invited talks, we look forward to participant presentations and intensive discussions at posters. Conference language will be English or German, as required.

Keynote Speaker

Kristian Ufer (BGR)/ Jan Dietel (LLBB): Crystallographic methods for the quantitative determination of minerals in soils
Matthias Schellhorn (Stephan Schmidt Tone): The relevance of special clays in horticultural growing media
Katja Emmerich (KIT Karlsruhe):  Cation exchange capacity of clay minerals and homoionic saturation
