German Soil Science Society

The German Soil Science Society (DBG) consists of around 2,200 members with an interest in the scientific study of soils. Our specialised society is a network of people and institutions active in the soil sciences and their diverse fields of application. This includes co-operation and knowledge-based advice, professional stimulation and information as well as an open and free exchange of opinions and information. We also aim to promote young scientists and to inform broad sections of society about soils, their functions in the ecosystem and the diverse ecosystem services they provide. We are also dedicated to maintaining and promoting relationships with scientific societies and associations related to soil and neighbouring disciplines in Germany and abroad.

The German Soil Science Society organises regular biennial conferences with scientific excursions as well as specialist conferences and working meetings of the commissions and working groups.

It publishes the "Berichte der DBG" as an online publication, the "Nachrichten der DBG" (Grüne Blätter) as an information brochure (for members only) and the "Mitteilungen der Deutschen Bodenkundlichen Gesellschaft" as an unedited members' journal, as well as the Journal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science as an edited international journal.

It also awards the Fritz Scheffer Prize and the Ulrich Babel Prize to young scientists for outstanding scientific achievements.
